Since 2018, the Republican Competition “Energomarathon” has been included in the Work Plan of the Sustainable Development Council as a republican event to promote the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 7, among children and young people.
The Competition has been organized by the Department of Energy Efficiency for the past 14 years and is aimed at fostering an active social attitude towards the rational use of energy resources and respect for the environment among children, as well as at identifying and disseminating effective experience of educational institutions in organizing energy saving.
More than 3500 pupils and students from more than 500 different educational institutions in Belarus (preschools, secondary schools, vocational-technical schools, etc.) participate in the Competition every year. The best works of the participants are submitted for participation in international competitions.
The best contestants represent the Republic of Belarus at international events (the Zayed Future Energy Prize (the United Arab Emirates), the Russian festival #VmesteYarche, and thematic specialized educational sessions on the base of All-Russian Child Center Smena).
In 2021, for the first time, the Competition was held in an online format. Studios were organized in each region and in Minsk for interactive communication with the central studio, where the winners in 7 nominations were announced by the heads of the Department of Energy Efficiency, the Ministry of Education, and the Minsk Regional Executive Committee. The ceremony was broadcasted live on the website of the Department of Energy Efficiency, which significantly increased the audience of the Competition (there were more than 500 simultaneous connections to the broadcast, including connections from Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, and Lithuania).
