GosstandartParticipation in technical committees of international and European standardization organizations

Since 1993, the Republic of Belarus is a full member of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
Since 2009, our country is an affiliate member of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Standardization in Electrical Engineering (CENELEC), since 2017 Belarus is a partner body for standardization of CEN and CENELEC.
The legal status of the Belarus’ participation in these organizations is set out in the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus of November 21, 2017 No. 877 "On cooperation with international organizations and interstate formations".
The main working formations in ISO, IEC, CEN, CENELEC are Technical Committees (TC), created with the purpose of development of specific international and European standards and uniting interested representatives of national standardization bodies of member countries. TC’s activities are carried out in accordance with business and technical work plans.
There are about 300 such committees in ISO, more than 100 – in IEC, 399 – in CEN , 88 – in CENELEC.
Specialists of enterprises and organizations of the Republic of Belarus can participate in the work of any technical committee of these organizations.
Participation in the work of ISO and IEC TC is possible as an active member (consideration and voting on draft documents, participation in TC meetings) or as an observer (receiving information on TC activities, consideration of documents).
It should be taken into consideration that work in the TC implies participation in standards development, projects consideration, participation in the TC meetings, etc. Funding for participation costs is provided by interested organizations.
To this date, the specialists of enterprises and organizations of the Republic of Belarus have expressed interest in participation in the work of 182 TCs and subcommittees of ISO, 92 TCs and subcommittees of IEC, 20 TCs of CEN and 3 TCs of CENELEC.
Specialists of enterprises and organizations of the Republic of Belarus can be represented for participation in technical committees ISO, IEC, CEN and CENELEC only by the national standardization body – Gosstandart.
Therefore, the desire to participate in ISO, IEC, CEN and CENELEC should be reported to Gosstandart.
Requirements for participants:
- English ability;
- obligation to work on a permanent basis in the TC and to fill in a participant form (completed form is sent to Gosstandart);
- statement on self-financing (to cover expenses related to participation in work TC).
